The Dallas Cowboys are bringing back a familiar face to their secondary.
According to a report from NFL Network’s Jane Slater and confirmed by DallasCowboys.com, the team has agreed to terms on a one-year deal with defensive back Israel Mukuamu.
Mukuamu, 25, was originally selected by Dallas in the sixth round of the 2021 NFL Draft out of the University of South Carolina.
A versatile and rangy defensive back, Mukuamu has quietly carved out a valuable role in ex Cowboys coach Dan Quinn’s defense over the past four seasons, primarily contributing on special teams and in sub-packages as a safety/corner hybrid.
Standing at 6-foot-4, Mukuamu brings unique size and length to the Cowboys’ defensive backfield. While he hasn’t had a breakout season yet, his ability to line up at multiple positions and his consistent special teams play have made him a dependable piece of the rotation.
His most notable performances came during the 2022 playoff run, where he filled in admirably in the secondary and made key plays when injuries hit the starting lineup.
The Cowboys’ front office has emphasized bringing back homegrown talent and maintaining continuity this offseason.
Re-signing Mukuamu is a low-risk, high-reward move that keeps a valuable contributor in-house—one who already understands the culture and expectations of the Dallas locker room.
