DC Kinsman Review

2–4 minutes

First Impressions

There is something to be said about receiving the right cigar at exactly the right moment.

The DC Kinsman LE arrived as a birthday gift, and from the second I pulled it from its sleeve, I knew this was going to be a proper sit-down smoke. The dark Mexican San Andrés wrapper what Definition Cigars poetically calls “Passion” has a gorgeous toothy texture to it, oily in all the right places, and presents with an elegance that commands a little respect before you even light up. Construction is flawless.

The cap cuts clean. The cold draw opens up notes of cocoa nib and raw cedar. Already, this cigar was telling me something good was coming.

First Third

The first third wasted absolutely no time getting to work. Right off the light, there is a rich, earthy earthiness anchored by dark chocolate and a gentle peppery kick that hits the back of the palate.

This is a cigar that announces itself. The Nicaraguan binder “Loyalty” holds everything together beautifully, keeping the burn line laser-straight from the very first inch.

The smoke production is generous and velvety, filling the air with a warm, sweet woodiness that makes you slow down and pay attention. This is not a rush job cigar. The complexity here demands that you respect the pace it sets.

Second Third

As the Kinsman transitions into the second third, the blend opens up into something even more interesting.

The pepper that introduced itself in the first third mellows into a warm spice more cinnamon and cedar than punch while new notes of dried fruit, a hint of espresso, and a subtle creaminess begin to develop. Credit goes to that Indonesian-Nicaraguan filler combination, the “Gratitude” component of this blend, which adds layers and dimension without ever muddying the profile.

The strength builds steadily here this is firmly medium-plus territory, creeping toward full but never turns aggressive.

Definition Cigars clearly put real thought into the balance on this one.

Final Third

By the final third, the DC Kinsman LE delivers on every promise it made in the opening notes.

The flavors intensify without losing refinement a satisfying combination of leather, dark earth, toasted oak, and a lingering sweetness that keeps each draw interesting right down to the nub.

Strength is solidly full at this point, but the smoke stays cool and the burn remains even throughout. This is the kind of finish that makes you sit quietly for a minute after the cigar is done, just to let the experience land properly.

This is a cigar worthy of any occasion you want to remember. And at this point, I have yet to have a bad cigar from Definition Cigars.

The Kinsman just reaffirms what I already knew this brand understands what it means to put something meaningful in your hand.

Another great stick from our friends at Definition Cigars. Always a pleasure supporting the brand.
