Definition Cigars 919 Habano | Cigar Review
Wrapper: Ecuadorian Habano | Binder: Nicaraguan | Filler: Nicaragua & Honduras | Price: $13.39
Some cigars have the luxury of a long calculated development arc — test blends, focus groups, brand meetings. The 919 Habano had none of that. It was built for a single night, September 19th, 2020, and a room full of people who weren’t supposed to remember it as anything other than a good time.
With no plans to release it commercially, Definition Cigars kept it close until the attendees wouldn’t let them. The feedback was loud enough to change the plan, and the 919 quietly found its way to market in the Winter of 2020/2021. Every SOTL and BOTL has been better for it since.
The Ecuadorian Habano wrapper arrives looking the part: a rich, oily robe with a warm reddish-brown hue and just enough tooth to signal complexity without telegraphing aggression. The cold draw offers cedar and a whisper of dried dark fruit exactly the kind of pre-light that builds anticipation without lying about what’s coming.
The first third opens with a medium-bodied creaminess anchored by toasted cedar and leather.
There’s a pleasant earthiness from the Nicaraguan filler, nothing sharp or overwhelming just that satisfying, foundational richness you want when you’re settling in for a special occasion.
The draw is effortless, and the burn holds a razor line from the jump.
By the second third, the blend finds its stride. The Honduran filler begins to assert itself with a subtle sweetness — think dried fig and a hint of baking spice — layered over an evolving pepper note that hums in the background without ever stealing the show.
This is where you realize the 919 isn’t just a celebration cigar. It’s a craft cigar that happens to have a great story attached to it.
The final third delivers a satisfying payoff. The strength nudges toward medium-full, the pepper brightens slightly, and there’s a lingering cocoa finish that made me reluctant to set it down. The burn stayed honest all the way through, and the smoke production was generous throughout.
At $13.39, the 919 Habano earns its cost with both its origin story and its performance. This is a cigar that knows what it is a special-occasion blend made honest by accident, now available to anyone willing to seek it out. I kicked off my birthday and draft celebration with this one, and I couldn’t have picked a better opener.
Another solid showing from Definition Cigars. The 919 didn’t need to become a commercial product, but I’m glad the room that night was loud enough to change the plan. Here’s to 9/19, to birthdays, to drafts, and to the smokes that make the moments worth remembering.
